Jamie Macpherson

Jamie is a prolific artist with a passion for visual storytelling, embarked on his artistic journey in 1987 by delving into the world of comic illustration as a 7 year old kid.  His early love for comics laid the foundation for a career that would encompass various forms of artistic expression.

In the early 2000s, Jamie's talent caught the attention of the Nelson Express newspaper, where his editorial cartoons found a home. These cartoons provided a platform for Jamie to share his unique perspective on current events and issues, showcasing his ability to blend humor with incisive commentary. Jamie was also in numerous punk rock bands starting in the late 90s which led to making posters for events and various album cover art, some of which ended up in the private collection of Jello Biafra, punk legend.

Venturing into alternative forms of expression, Jamie became a prominent contributor to Cannabis Culture magazine, where his cartoons took on a new dimension on their website ‘pot-tv’, reflecting the cultural and societal nuances surrounding the cannabis movement.

Simultaneously, Jamie immersed himself in the art of tattooing, beginning his journey in 1999. Over the years, he honed his skills and took his craft worldwide, leaving an indelible mark on the skin of individuals from diverse backgrounds. His dedication and mastery in tattooing were acknowledged through a best-selling ebook through Tattoo Life magazine, specifically on dragon-themed designs.

The apex of Jamie's career took him to the prestigious Royal Ontario Museum, the largest museum in North America, where was part of a tattoo exhibition. This groundbreaking event showcased not only his proficiency in tattoo art but also highlighted his versatility through live painting demonstrations. Paintings from the exhibition were not only admired by visitors but were also sold, further solidifying Jamie's status as a respected artist.

Jamie Macpherson's commitment to continuous improvement led him to study under renowned tattoo masters, including Filip Leu from Switzerland and Ichibay from Tokyo, Japan, Eddie Deutsche from California and he worked alongside Canadian Master tattoo artist John the Dutchman for 5 years. These experiences enriched his artistic repertoire, providing him with a global perspective and a diverse set of skills that set him apart in the tattooing world.

Currently, Jamie is channeling his creativity into tattoo art and graphic design for the skateboard industry. His collaboration with influential brands like Pylon Skateboards, Hippie Mike, Protest, and the legendary Steve Caballero has rejuvenated the connection between cartooning and skateboard art. His first pro graphics were for Kevin Harris, Andy Anderson and Hippie Mike. Through these collaborations, Jamie is contributing to the revival of a unique and vibrant artistic tradition within the skateboard culture, blending his cartooning roots with the rebellious spirit of the skateboarding and punk rock community.
